Angkor Wat

Visited by millions every year, this fantastically preserved temple is liked for its unrivaled beauty. Seated on land that measures up to 162.6 hectares, this complex is the largest religious monument in the world. It was first built as a Hindu temple but later transformed into a Buddhist temple.
Once there, you won’t only be taken by the striking grandeur of the ancient structures, views of sunrise or sunset are also mind-blowing. See the other Angkor temples Angkor Wat is the most recognized draw, but the area still has a lot to relish. Some of these allures are other temples and monasteries such as Banteay Srei, Bayon and Ta Prohm. There are many, although the main highlight is Ta Prohm. Tonle Sap Lake

Girdled by charming floating markets, Tonle Sap makes for a proper day trip from Siem Reap. This largest freshwater lake in Asia is half an hour south of Siem Reap. A trip to this natural wonder includes a boat cruise and a visit to the multiple villages that dot the shorelines. If you love marine life, Tonle Sap is your best answer. This place is home to over 100 water birds and other species like snakes, crocodiles, turtles and tortoises.

This is a paradise for bird watching. Prek Toal is one of the three biosphere reserves on Tonle Sap Lake. With its abundant bird species, this area is ranked the largest breeding ground for waterbirds in South East Asia. Make sure to visit in the dry season when most of the species like waterfowls are common.

Kompong Phluk

Other than Kampong Khleang, Kompong Phluk is another inviting spot around Tonle Sap. It is a group of three floating villages that give an authentic experience of the area. Check it out for local life encounters, heart-stopping boat cruises and fresh seafood. You can only get there by boat. Therefore the journey alone to this area awards continual views of the lakeside scenery.



Tucked far in the northwestern part of Cambodia, Battambang lures travelers with a mix of history, nature and the colonial French architecture. A tour to this area will reveal many historical sites such as temples, museums and other draws like the killing caves (the reminder of the brutal Khmer Rouge regime). Just near the killing cave, there is another cave haunted by visitors who come to watch thousands of bats flying out of it on every sunset. This event lasts for about 20 minutes.

West Baray Lake

Located near the walled city of Angkor Thom, this man-made lake is a favorite day out for holidaymakers. It is able not only for those who wish to spend off a day resting in a hammock but also great for foodies. Most of its eateries serve the worth to taste local Cambodian cuisine.

If you are still on a hunt for unmatched allures in Cambodia, Phnom Bok is no exception. It is perched atop a hill and expect to ascend over 640 stone steps before you get to the structures. The most uncommon thing here is the two frangipani trees that loom over the ruined towers. Besides that, the site is a great viewpoint for sweeping views of Angkor Wat and the Kulen Mountains.
